The Wheel of Time’s Daniel Henney on Season Two’s Evolution

1 years ago By Neil Ross

The anticipation surrounding Amazon’s adaptation of “The Wheel of Time” was palpable, and the series’ debut season certainly delivered. Based on the beloved fantasy series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, the show garnered immense attention, fueled by the books’ 90 million copies sold worldwide.

In the first season, viewers were introduced to Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) and her quest to find the reincarnated Dragon. While the initial season had its share of challenges and lessons, the cast and crew, including Daniel Henney, who plays Lan Mandragoran, are eager to showcase their growth and the exciting changes in season two.

Adapting to Challenges

The inaugural season of “The Wheel of Time” faced its fair share of obstacles, most notably the global Covid-19 pandemic. Daniel Henney, in a recent interview, acknowledged the difficulties encountered during this period and hinted at undisclosed production challenges. He emphasized the learning curve of shooting the first season of a large series, especially considering the enormous fan base and high expectations.

Henney also revealed some forced changes in storylines but emphasized the importance of overcoming such moments. These challenges, however, served as valuable experiences that shaped the direction of the show.

A Glimpse into Season Two

As the show’s production moves forward into season two, Daniel Henney and the rest of the cast and crew express a newfound sense of maturity and purpose. The pace and tone are settling into a comfortable groove, and the show is evolving in the direction they envisioned. The transition from season one to season two marks a significant shift, with the narrative becoming darker, characters breathing more freely, and conversations deepening, creating a classic fantasy atmosphere.

Henney, who spent the pre-production of season one immersing himself in the series’ rich lore, feels more confident in his performance for season two. His extensive preparation for season one has allowed him to be better prepared for physically demanding scenes, particularly those involving Lan’s katana sword.

Working alongside Oscar-nominated co-star Rosamund Pike has been a highlight for Henney. He commends Pike’s dedication and her relentless pursuit of authenticity in every scene, making her, in his words, “the best actor he’s ever worked with.”

“The Wheel of Time” is gearing up for an exciting season two, promising an evolution in storytelling, character development, and an even more immersive fantasy experience. The dedication and enthusiasm of the cast and crew, including Daniel Henney and Rosamund Pike, shine through in their commitment to bringing the beloved books to life. As viewers eagerly await the season two premiere on Amazon Prime, the show’s journey continues to captivate both fans of the original series and newcomers alike.
