Patty Jenkins’ Pitch For Cancelling Wonder Woman 3 Following The Events Of The Flash And Justice League

8 months ago By Movies Desk

Patty Jenkins, renowned for her directorial work in the Wonder Woman franchise, had a compelling vision for the third installment, Wonder Woman 3. According to the trusted scooper CanWeGetSomeToast on the now-defunct X platform (formerly Twitter), Jenkins intended to place Wonder Woman in the contemporary setting of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). This move would have taken place after the monumental events of Justice League and the superhero’s notable appearances in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash. The ambitious project was poised to feature other iconic DC characters, with one standout inclusion being Ben Affleck’s Batman.

However, it’s essential to approach these rumored story details with caution, as they have not been officially confirmed by Jenkins, Warner Bros., or DC Studios. Nonetheless, if accurate, Wonder Woman 3 would have stood out as the only installment in the unrealized film trilogy to unfold entirely in the present day. This stands in contrast to the original Wonder Woman (2017), set during World War I, and the 2020 sequel, which transported us to 1984 amid renewed Cold War tensions.

Wonder Woman 3 initially entered development under the previous DC Films regime, with Patty Jenkins at the helm and Gal Gadot set to reprise her role as the iconic superheroine. However, the project took an unexpected turn in December 2022, coinciding with the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new heads of DC Studios. This transition marked a critical juncture in the project’s fate as it was ultimately scrapped.

The rollercoaster ride of uncertainty continued when, in August 2023, Gal Gadot hinted that Wonder Woman 3 might still be in development at DC Studios. Gunn and Safran, the new stewards of the DCEU, assured her that there was “nothing to worry about.” However, a subsequent report swiftly emerged, suggesting that DC had not yet committed to moving forward with the long-anticipated threequel. As of now, the prevailing sentiment is that Wonder Woman 3 lies dormant at DC Studios, with the only active Wonder Woman-related project being the live-action prequel series titled “Paradise Lost.”

Amid the conflicting reports surrounding Wonder Woman 3’s status, James Gunn came forward in December 2022 to clarify that Gal Gadot had not been “booted”’from her iconic role as Wonder Woman. However, he left fans speculating about whether DC had definite plans to reintroduce the actor as Wonder Woman in the upcoming DC Universe, scheduled to commence in 2024 with the release of the animated Max series, “Creature Commandos.” Regardless of Gadot’s involvement, Gunn disclosed in February 2023 that fans would not have to wait long to witness the DCU’s Wonder Woman make her triumphant return.

As of the time of writing, the only DCEU actors confirmed to return for the DC Universe are John Cena as Peacemaker, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle is portrayed by Sean Gunn.Weasel is played by Sean Gunn.John Economos is portrayed by Steve Agee. Their continued involvement underscores the evolving landscape of the DC Universe and leaves fans eager to see how Wonder Woman, whether portrayed by Gal Gadot or a new actor, fits into this exciting narrative.

In the meantime, fans can enjoy the adventures of Wonder Woman in the first two installments of the franchise, “Wonder Woman” and “Wonder Woman 1984,” available for streaming on Max. As the future of Wonder Woman 3 remains shrouded in uncertainty, the DC Universe continues to evolve, promising fresh narratives and exciting character developments for fans to anticipate.
