BTS RM’s Whopping $75K Donation To Overseas Cultural Heritage Foundation
BTS’ charismatic leader, RM, known for his deep love for nature and art, is not only a renowned K-pop idol but also a responsible citizen of South Korea. His recent act of philanthropy demonstrates his ko commitment to preserving the country’s cultural heritage. RM’s generous donation of 100 million KRW, equivalent to approximately $75,392, to the Overseas Cultural Heritage Foundation, has paved the way for the return of ceremonial attire from the Joseon Dynasty to South Korea from Los Angeles.
A Passion for Art and Culture
Kim Nam-joon, popularly known as RM, hails from Ilsan, South Korea, a place known for Asia’s largest artificial lake. His deep passion for art and nature is evident through his frequent visits to museums worldwide, which he often shares on his social media profiles. RM’s fascination with art extends beyond mere observation; he delves into the historical significance of each artifact, showcasing his profound appreciation for culture and heritage.
A Remarkable Contribution
In 2021, RM’s generous donation to the Overseas Cultural Heritage Foundation was earmarked for the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage abroad. This contribution served as the catalyst for an extraordinary endeavor—the return of ceremonial attire from the Joseon Dynasty to South Korea.
Unveiling the Magnificence
On September 15, the National Palace Museum of Korea is commencing an exquisite exhibition titled “Blooming Hwarot: Bridal Robes of the Joseon Royal Court” that will dazzle visitors. This exhibit will showcase nine rare ceremonial attires, a precious collection of which only 50 pieces exist worldwide. The inclusion of ceremonial attire from the early 20th century, a part of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) collection, is a highlight. These garments, in pristine condition, are adorned with intricate embroidery in vibrant colors, thanks to the benevolence of BTS’ RM.
A Cultural Heritage Advocate
The Cultural Heritage Administration honored RM with a commendation for his exceptional contribution to preserving South Korea’s rich cultural legacy, recognizing his dedication. “He further extended his commitment to the cause by making an additional donation, which will create a booklet titled ‘Masterpieces of Korean Paintings,’ enhancing the nation’s appreciation for its artistic heritage.”
Personal Endeavors
While actively pursuing his solo career, RM recently celebrated his 29th birthday. However, like his fellow BTS members Jin and J-Hope, he faces mandatory military service, a duty shared with V, Jungkook, Jimin, and Suga, as they fulfill their obligations as South Korean citizens.
