August 08’ Aka Ray Jacob Co-Writer of DJ Khaled’s ‘I’m the One’ passes away at 31
August 08, the singer/songwriter and producer who collaborated with and wrote tracks for artists such as DJ Khaled, Jhené Aiko and Kehlani, died on Saturday, his record label “def jam recording” announced.
The R&B singer, who co-wrote DJ Khaled’s chart-topper “I’m the One,” was 31.
Known under the moniker August 08, Ray Jacobs was a dynamic and gifted artist whose talents spanned singing, songwriting, and producing.
On the songwriting side, August collaborated with Ty Dolla $ign, Duckwrth, Kyle and more. He also co-wrote DJ Khaled’s billboard hot 100 No. 1 hit “I’m the One,” featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
In an official statement to USA TODAY, Def Jam Recordings expressed their sorrow over the loss: “The entire Def Jam family mourns the tragic loss of Ray August 08’ Jacobs. A brilliant songwriter, an accomplished musician, and a singular artist, August will remain in our memory as a beloved colleague and friend. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.” While the cause of his passing remains undisclosed, the void left by his departure is deeply felt.
